When Two Teenagers Won The Day On Shark Tank India
Raghav and Aditya, the 19 year old co-founders of Zillionaire, were asked how would they win despite competition in the future.
I felt the question had bowled over the duo, and they’d have no response.
Raghav took a few moments to think and said something that I’ve paraphrased below.
‘We are a part of the hip-hop subculture. We know what people think and want. We also know how to psychologically hit them.’
In this moment, I realised that they would get a good offer. And they did.
On the same episode, another startup Credmate did not get any offers. The founders of the company did not know their monthly and daily active users.
Another startup featured in the same episode was Freebowler. They have created and manufacture manual and battery operated bowling arms that help cricketers practice.
But when asked about the revenue of their competitor, the founders seemed to have no clue.
This irked the sharks, and that’s understandable.
Cut to a few episodes ago, Jyoti Bharadwaj of Tea Fit was asked about the unit economics of her healthy beverages. She knew the details to the tee, listing one ingredient after another and how much it adds to the cost.
It was one of the memorable moments of the season.
But what’s the point of all these examples?
Knowledge matters, and even more as an entrepreneur.
And only because you look at many things, you cannot not have the understanding of details.
One communication tip for today:
Knowledge-building is a continuous process, and there is no short cut to it.
But ensuring that you showcase your knowledge during high-stakes situation needs preparation.
This is how I would prepare for it.
Any pitch or meeting you have, prepare for it, practice delivering it and get feedback.
In the process you will discover questions you may not have anticipated. That’s your chance to prepare for those.
So yes, Prepare-Practice-Feedback.
