This is the ‘Win with Stories’ newsletter focused on helping founders, entrepreneurs and business owners. Every week I send an email with a business or life message wrapped in a short story. I also share one actionable tip to help you enhance your business storytelling skills.
How to pitch in 30 seconds?
They say we live in an attention-deficit world. So a 60 word or 30-second pitch about your startup, leadership or even work should help, right?
But the question is where do such concise pitches come into play?
At investor meets? Networking events? Conversations?
Here’s how it helped me a few weeks ago.
Ranjani(Cofounder of The Story Co) and I met with radio jockey Hrishikesh Kannan of Radio One in Mumbai. He is popularly as Hrishi K.
Our meeting was a courtesy call since we’ve known each other for a while. To be honest, I was hoping that he’d think of featuring Ranjani and me on his show. This would help get some visibility for our business.
Hrishi asked, “So, what do you do with this Story Co thing, Sachin?”
I’ve perfected the answer to this question over the years.
“Hrishi, you remember stories from The Mahabharata and comic books. But if I ask you details of a business presentation from last week, you’d scratch your head, right?
The reason for that is stories are a hack into the human brain. That’s why The Story Co helps companies, startups and professionals reach their goals with speed and ease using the power of story.
And I write a newsletter with a short story and communication tip every Wednesday. I have written about 80 business stories by now. I was hoping you’d want to feature them in one way or another.”
Unwittingly, I had made a 30-second pitch to Hrishi(actually 45 seconds. But I guess it still counts).
Did it work or not?
Below is the link to the first Youtube episode of the series ‘Business and Leadership Stories’ by Radio One. No points for guessing who’s featured on the show(yours truly, if you haven’t figured out by now).
